About Sadye Silva MPH, RDN, CDN, IBCLC

Sadye (pronounced: say-dee) entered the field of nutrition in 2012 and has been working with breastfeeding families since 2014, first as a registered dietitian at a Women Infant and Children (WIC) program then at a local hospital as an IBCLC in 2017. She has worked as an IBCLC leading breastfeeding classes, working with newborns in an outpatient hospital setting and supporting families via telehealth. Sadye uses her knowledge of nutrition to support families in the transitional process that is pregnancy and postpartum. She uses a holistic real food nutrition approach, because she believes in the power of food and its critical role in maternal and infant health. Sadye believes in using evidence-based practices that also consider ancestral knowledge and a person's intuition. Working in healthcare, Sadye noticed gaps in support and care for mothers after birth which led her to become a doula. Sadye has worked with thousands of families with varied backgrounds, abilities, medical conditions and feeding goals. She is here to listen and support you as you reach your goals.

Sadye lives in Queens, New York but is originally from Mexico. She grew up in a bordertown in south Texas and is therefore bilingual and passionate about serving Spanish-speaking communities. In her spare time, you can find her enjoying time with loved ones, in nature, traveling, repurposing jars or thrifting.

Why Girasol Lactation and Postpartum

I chose the name 'Girasol' for my lactation and postpartum services because it means sunflower in Spanish as an homage to my Mexican-American roots. Historically, the sunflower represents the qualities that I strive to bring to every client interaction - positivity, joy, loyalty, and a commitment to seeking the light even in difficult times. Also a sunflower  is made up of many small flowers, which seems like a great parallel to how raising a child takes a village of support. My goal is to be a source of light for every client I work with, while also empowering them to trust their own intuition.

What does a Postpartum Doula do? Would you benefit from one?

As a doula, my role is to provide compassionate and non-judgmental support to you and your family during this transformative time. I am here to be an extra set of hands, to lend an ear, and to offer guidance and reassurance. Unlike baby nurses, doulas are mother-centered. My focus is on caring for you, so that you can focus on caring for your child.
